3 Mods That Made Skyrim a Better Third Person Game

Over the years, games have evolved significantly, but Skyrim continues to stand out as one of the best due to its immersive world and engaging gameplay mechanics. However, one area where Skyrim falls short is its third-person gameplay.

While players are used to experiencing the game in first-person, there is an option to switch to a third-person perspective. Unfortunately, the third-person gameplay can feel a bit awkward and clumsy at times. To address this issue, we have curated a selection of three mods that will greatly enhance your third-person gameplay experience in Skyrim.

SmoothCam

SmoothCam is a camera mod for skyrim made by mwilsnd that significantly enhances the third-person gameplay experience in Skyrim. It focuses on refining the camera movement and controls while playing in this perspective, resulting in a smoother and more responsive feel.

By addressing the usual jankiness associated with Skyrim’s default third-person camera, SmoothCam greatly improves the overall enjoyment and user-friendliness of the game.

True Directional Movement – Modernized Third Person Gameplay

The True Directional Movement mod, crafted by the talented modder ersh, revolutionizes Skyrim’s movement mechanics, delivering a modern and immersive third-person perspective (TPP) gameplay. This mod aims to bring Skyrim closer to contemporary action RPGs, enhancing the overall experience for players.

The directional movement feature ensures that your character moves precisely in the direction you input on your controls, regardless of the camera’s orientation. Additionally, it introduces a character lock feature, automatically facing the target during lock-on, and adjusts the camera’s yaw and pitch for a more refined feel. You can now also fully rotate the camera on a mount. The mount/dismount animations will no longer change your camera angle and zoom and you’ll also be able to rotate the camera while they play.

The target lock feature is thoughtfully designed to avoid awkward angles and disorienting movements when near the target, ensuring a smoother and more enjoyable combat experience. There is also headtracking feature allows the character to look where the player points, adding to the sense of realism and immersion.

Another feature of the target lock is it offers players two types of aim support while using target lock. The first option is predictive aim, which considers the current velocity of the target and adjusts the projectile’s trajectory to hit the predicted enemy location. However, this method may miss if the enemy changes direction suddenly. The second option is homing projectiles, which greatly increases the chances of hitting the target, almost guaranteeing successful hits.

There is also a small feature that allows you to swim up and down by pressing the jump and sneak buttons. Can’t be “True Directional” without up and down, after all. The player character’s pitch is now also changed while swimming. Furthermore, the mod incorporates an enemy widget, displaying health and stamina bars for enemies, bringing a modern touch to the game’s interface. This improvement not only heightens realism but also enhances combat, exploration, and overall maneuverability in Skyrim.

With the True Directional Movement mod, players can say goodbye to the need for constant camera adjustments during intense battles, as they navigate through Skyrim’s vast landscapes with greater ease and fluidity. It’s an exceptional addition for those seeking a more contemporary and dynamic gaming experience in the world of Skyrim.

Attack – MCO|DXP

Developed by the SkyrimGuild Community, the Attack – MCO|DXP mod brings a revolutionary change to Skyrim’s combat mechanics. By incorporating new animations inspired by Elder Souls, created by SkyrimGuild Founder MikeN1ke, the mod effectively eliminates the “ice skating combat” present in the vanilla game. This combat issue can make the gameplay feel unrealistic and less engaging, especially when compared to modern action RPGs.

With Attack – MCO|DXP, the combat experience in third-person view undergoes a complete overhaul. The mod introduces a comprehensive animation library that revitalizes the attack animations, resulting in a more distinct and modern combat system. Players can now enjoy a more immersive and satisfying gameplay experience, with combat feeling more deliberate, impactful, and in line with contemporary action RPGs.
